why subscriber count ≠ revenue

let me save you months of wasting time on youtube:

subscriber count doesn't determine how much money you make

it's cool to see that number go up

but it's not what actually pays you

I've seen channels with 20K subs make $100K/month

and channels with 200K subs make $2K/month

youtube pays you based on how many people watch your videos and for how long

not how many subscribers you have

so if these are the metrics that actually matter, how do you improve them?

1. getting more views

views come from topic selection

it's literally 90% of the game

and one of the biggest problems I see with beginners is trying to be too creative

don’t

stop trying to be creative and just take proven topics from competitors

find videos in your niche doing 500K-2M+ views and make your own version

keep topics broad so they appeal to as many people as possible

then post frequently

if your competitor posts 2x/week, you post 3x/week

cuz more uploads = more shots at going viral

2. increasing watch time

youtube pushes videos that keep people on the platform

so make longer videos (30-60+ minutes)

cuz a 60-min video at 50% retention = 30 mins watch time

a 15-min video at 50% retention = 7.5 mins

and you get paid way more for that extra watch time

also you need to nail your hook in the first 30 seconds

to do that just:

promise the payoff

tease something exciting

and don't waste time

3. boosting CTR (click through rate)

more clicks = more views = more money

and to get more clicks you need to:

1. copy competitor thumbnail structures that are already working

2. use 2-3 focus points max (simple always beats complex)

3. keep titles under 60 characters and broad

4. boost saturation and contrast in your thumbnails so they pop

and that’s it…

these three metrics are what actually pay your bills

subscriber count just makes you feel good

so stop obsessing over subs and start focusing on views, watch time, and CTR

that's how you actually make money
